Barry Barto was a young man poised on the brink of a successful career, looking forward to the challenges and opportunities of life as an adult, when a tragic accident cut that life short in April 1999. A talented athlete, Barry was a member of Burgettstown's Blue Devils basketball team that won 60 games while only losing 15 during his three-year varsity career. When Barry was a junior, the basketball team reached the "Elite Eight" in the P.I.A.A. state playoffs. In his senior year he was on the Blue Devil's first undefeated section championship team. An exceptional golfer, Barry also lettered three years in that sport, winning the Bernie Alexander Memorial Golf Scholarship as the school's outstanding golfer in his senior year. After graduating from Burgettstown High School, Barto entered Triangle Tech in Pittsburgh, earning a degree in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning in 1998. He would become the school's first "Student of the Month" during his matriculation there. He had just begun his first job in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning field when the accident occurred.
