Dress for Success Pittsburgh

Mission

Promote the economic independence of women by helping them gain and retain meaningful employment

Programs and Services

  • The Professional Suiting Program provides each client with one suit when she has a job interview and a week’s worth of separates after she gets the job. The Program also provides scrubs, nonskid shoes, steel-toed shoes and any other type of clothing women need in order to work in any field. In addition, we now have the Suitable Hair Program, which connects women to salon schools that are willing to provide a free hair cut for the clients. We are a job development company.
  • We now have Career Development Workshops (CDW), which provide a forum for teaching and learning hard skills women would need in the workplace. Every month in all three branches, corporate volunteers facilitate hard skills workshops, covering presentation, word processing, and spreadsheet skills, as well as using social media in the business, budget management and other hard skills that will help women get higher-wage jobs and start building careers. This is part of our job readiness work.
  • The PWG, Professional Women’s Group provides networking, peer support, workshops and instruction as well as professional coaching/training to enhance the personal and professional development of clients so that they can retain their employment. Volunteers and corporate partners come in on a monthly basis to facilitate discussions and workshops on soft skills, such as communication, conflict management, maneuvering through the legal system, domestic abuse, and other such soft skills.
