(2001) - Created by a lead gift from John A. and Barbara L. Campbell, along with the proceeds from the Community Foundation Night at the Theatre event sponsored by the WCCF.

The WCCF has long been interested in creating a permanent fund to support the arts &humanities in Washington County.  There are limited local resources that organizations concerned with the arts & humanities can approach for support.  As a result, there are limited cultural opportunities for citizens of Washington County.  Our goal with this fund is to become a funding resource for established, emerging and yet to be created cultural organizations and programs in Washington.

We were delighted when the Washington Community Theatre agreed to help generate interest in the fund by permitting the Foundation to "buy out" their opening night performance of Oliver on June 19th.  Despite the hot, humid weather, the event was a success.  Approximately 250 attendees were treated to a delightful performance from the theatre group, complimentary refreshments and a small gift.

We were further delighted when Foundation donors John A. and Barbara Campbell offered a challenge grant of $5,000 for the endowment.  This challenge encouraged other gifts including a $1,500 contribution from R.G. Johnson Company, Inc.  Event sponsors, at $2,500 each, were Mr.& Mrs. Paul Songer, Chapman Corporation Employees, Ross International, and Washington Federal.

Beginning in 2002, and in each year thereafter, an allocation will be made from this fund.  The primary criteria for funding is that the project involve the arts or humanities in Washington County.
