Washington County Bar Foundation
Established in 1989 for the purpose of further cultivating the science of jurisprudence, improving the legal and judicial system and facilitating the administration of justice through the support of pro bono efforts, legal services for the indigent, law-related education and scholarships, and public information and educational initiatives.
Programs and Services
- The Bar Foundation, in cooperation with the Bar Association, provides a variety of law-related educational programs for the public such as a "Law Works 4 U" program at the LeMoyne Community Center, Law Day, Inaugural "Read the Constitution!" Day on the Courthouse Steps, six-week series of "People's Law School" seminars, and a Law School for Nonprofit Organizations -- all with the goal of informing the public of their rights and responsibilities under the law.
- The Bar Foundation provides grants to law-related organizations or those with a law-related project. Recipients have included CASA for Kids (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Domestic Violence Services of SWPA, Washington County Literacy Council (reading centers for juvenile court waiting room), and many others.
- The Bar Foundation provides scholarships to Washington County residents enrolled in Duquesne University School of Law and University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
- The Bar Foundation provides grants for programs and services to assist the indigent, including funding for Southwestern PA Legal Services and support of pro bono programs.
