Washington County Bar Foundation

Mission

Established in 1989 for the purpose of further cultivating the science of jurisprudence, improving the legal and judicial system and facilitating the administration of justice through the support of pro bono efforts, legal services for the indigent, law-related education and scholarships, and public information and educational initiatives.

Programs and Services

  • PHILANTHROPY - The Bar Foundation provides law-related grants to a variety of local agencies such as Domestic Violence Services of SWPA and to CASA for Kids, as well as support for projects like the LeMoyne Center's year-long, justice-awareness youth program, “Law Works 4 You.” WCBA Members donate thousands of dollars each year to help children in temporary and foster placement and homeless shelters through the Bar Foundation's Holiday Gift Drive for Children.
  • EDUCATION - The Bar Foundation provides law-related educational programs such as the annual Law Day Celebration, “I Signed the Constitution!” and “Legal Issues Now that You are 18"; as well as a People’s Law School multi-week seminar series, Courthouse tours, speakers bureaus, voters’ guides and forums, and more. In addition, two annual scholarships are provided to residents who are attending law school at Pitt and Duquesne.
  • JUSTICE -- The Bar Foundation enhances access to justice by fostering programs that deliver legal services to the poor. It provides grants and works closely with SWPA Legal Services to secure legal representation for eligible clients in cases where conflicts of interest occur. The Bar Foundation also creates opportunities for members of the legal profession to provide pro bono representation to the indigent.
