The 2000 Turkeys Fund was created to accept contributions for 2000 Turkeys.
An event that began in 1983 as a seasonal food campaign for the unemployed, 2000 Turkeys has since grown in popularity and worth. The event has transitioned into a tradition for the Washington County families, schools and businesses that help provide a holiday meal for those Washington County residents who meet the eligibility requirements established by the Greater Washington County Food Bank. The campaign kicks off on October 1 each year and runs through the end of November, where every $10 raised provides a Thanksgiving dinner for a family of four.
Thanks to generous donations, the 2011 campaign provided meals for over 4,000 households – or roughly 20,800 individuals.
