From June 11-17, the Washington County Community Foundation (WCCF) will host its annual web-based contest for qualified 501(c)(3) charities. The winning organizations will receive a total of $6,000 in unrestricted grants from the Foundation’s Acorn Fund.
In an effort to encourage charities to tell their impact stories, a new version of the contest has been developed for 2018. Only charities with a story on the WCCF’s Heart of Giving Charity Storybook website, http://storybook.wccf.net, will be eligible to participate. The story submission deadline is Friday, June 1.
To play, members of the community are encouraged to visit http://storybook.wccf.net during the contest window to assign a “Heart” to their favorite stories. In order for voters to "Heart" a story, they first must be registered as a reader on the Heart of Giving Storybook website. Registration is free and requires only a name and valid email. Voters may "Heart" as many different charity stories as they would like, but they may only "Heart" a single story once. Charities with multiple stories on the site will have their “Hearts” combined into a total score.
A grant of $2,000 will be awarded to the charity who has earned the greatest number of “Hearts” during the contest window. Two other charities chosen at random will receive a $1,000 grant. Chances in the drawing will be determined by the number of “Hearts” received during the contest.
Additionally, the Foundation will be recording the unique page views (“Clicks”) for every charity story on the website. Charities with multiple stories on the site will have their “Clicks” combined into a total score. A $1,000 grant will be presented to the charity with the most “Clicks.” Two other charities will be chosen at random to receive a grant of $500. Chances in the drawing will be determined by the number of “Clicks” received during the contest.
“For the past five years, the WCCF has seen how ‘Clicks for Cash’ has helped the participating charities create greater awareness about their organizations through the contest. Now, we are encouraging these organizations to go further by getting to the heart of their organization’s work through a powerful impact story on our Heart of Giving Charity Storybook website. The charities who are successful in telling their most compelling stories have the potential to achieve the greatest fundraising success,” stated Betsie Trew, WCCF President & CEO.
