The Washington County Community Foundation (WCCF) has released the results of WCCF Gives, Washington County’s annual community-wide day of giving held on September 12, 2018.  This year’s event set a new record for total contributions at more than $860,000, an increase of 17 percent over last year.  When combined with the WCCF’s $100,000 bonus pool, WCCF Gives will result in grant checks to participating charities totaling $960,000!

“The continuous growth of this event has been astounding for all those involved,” said Lynne Stout, Chairman.  “It is clear that Washington County donors want to give close to home, and the Foundation is delighted that WCCF Gives is helping these generous individuals and businesses to support all their favorite local charities during a single day of giving.”

Of the 121 charities who participated, 44% realized an increase in their number of donors over last year and 55% realized an increase in the amount contributed.  Donors contributing by credit card represented 45% of the total number of donors and 33% of the total amount contributed.

For the second year the Foundation has accepted IRA charitable transfers from eligible donors.  There were nine IRA charitable transfers which totaled $65,022 and ranged in value from $300 to $30,000.

“The four philanthropic roles of the Community Foundation are as a donor service organization, a community leader, a fundraiser, and a grant-maker, and the day of giving enables us to illustrate our service in all four of these roles,” said Betsie Trew, President & CEO.  “What better way to serve donors than to enable them to support multiple charities with one gift, and to put them in complete control of their giving?  To help our charities to secure operational support, the Community Foundation led the charge six years ago to create WCCF Gives and annually fundraises to secure a $100,000 bonus pool to encourage participation.  And cumulatively, the day of giving has provided Gives Grants in excess of $4,200,000.”

Each participating charity will receive one check from the WCCF for the total of its contributions and the appropriate portion of the bonus pool, along with a list of donors, at one of seven different community-based “Gives Gathering” events in October.  For individual charity amounts, please visit www.wccfgives.org.

WCCF Gives was sponsored by ANSYS, Chapman Corporation, Washington Financial Charitable Foundation, Alex Paris Contracting, Observer-Reporter, Washington Auto Mall, and the WCCF Acorn Fund.
