Jefferson College Historical Society

Mission

The Jefferson College Historical Society brings together people interested in the history of Jefferson College, Canonsburg, PA and the surrounding area. The Society shall discover, collect, preserve and make accessible local and regional historical materials by making available public displays, library facilities and various educational media in its effort to inspire a diverse public and encourage appreciation, for and participation in relevant activities related to history and heritage.

Programs and Services

  • Jefferson College Historical Society is an active community asset that is involved in the preservation and education about Jefferson College and the Greater Canonsburg Area including: Canonsburg, Cecil Township, Chartiers Township, Houston, and North Strabane and the roll each played in the development of the region and the broader American story. We focus on the contributions of all the citizen groups that are part of that broader narrative.
  • We maintain a historical society museum, open to the public free of charge, that exhibits relics and weaves the tales of the people who built the college and the community. We provide speakers and programs to both entertain and to educate the public. We offer outreach programs to local organizations that have an interest in our local history. Jefferson College Historical Society also collaborates and supports other organizations, and the public as a whole, with information and unique resources we hold.
