Mission
The purpose of this society shall be to bring together those people interested in history, and especially in the history of Jefferson College, Canonsburg, and the surrounding area.
Programs and Services
- The Jefferson College Historical Society's Museum is in the lower level of the Canonsburg Middle School Auditorium. It houses and displays a wide array of artifacts that tell the tale of history of Jefferson College as well as the greater Canonsburg area, including Cecil, North Strabane, the borough of Canonsburg and other surrounding regions.
- For more than 50 years JCHS has been publishing a magazine, The Jefferson College Times, for its members. The magazine includes stories about the people, places, and events that have impacted the founding and development of the region.
- Our goal is to bring the past alive today for people of all ages. We especially hope to educate the children of the community so that they appreciate the evolution that has occurred in the region. From its beginnings as the western frontier, to an agricultural and college town, then to an area of heavy industry, and its move to a retail and technology center. We hope to relate the real-world experience of all those who contributed to the development of the community we know today.
- The Society shall discover, collect, preserve and make accessible local and regional historical materials by making available public displays, library facilities and various educational media in its effort to inspire a diverse public and encourage appreciation, for and participation in relevant activities related to history and heritage.
