Mission
Washington County Gay Straight Alliance, Inc. is dedicated to affirming acceptance between diverse groups of people, raising awareness in our community of the needs of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Transsexual, Questioning, Queer, Asexual, and Allied (LGBTQA) people through support, education, and community outreach on the issues of diversity. WCGSA, Inc. provides a safe, confidential environment for individuals of Washington County and the surrounding areas regardless of sex, race, disability, gender, gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation.
Programs and Services
- The WCGSA, Inc. has facilitated and provided resources for a peer group of LGBTQA+ youth since 2005. We formed as a nonprofit Corp. in August, 2012, and received 501(c)(3) status from the IRS in July 2014.
- We moved to The CENTER on Strawberry, a welcoming community center, in Jan. 2017, to enable us to expand programming and services to all in a safe space.
- Our programming includes Trans Family, Trans Peer Group; Skittles Youth Group ages 7-13; Sexuality and Gender Alliance, (SAGA) Peer Youth Group ages 13-18; SAGA 2.0 ages 18-49; Strawberry Preserves Senior Group ages 50+; Smart Recovery; HIV/AIDS Peer Support Group.
- Some of our social events include Washington PA PRIDE Festival, How-To Tuesdays, Game On!, 2nd Friday Nights dinner, Youth 4th Friday events, as well as drop-in hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Primary Revenue Sources
Fundraising/solicitations of donations for general fund and separate fundraising for Washington PA PRIDE through donations, sponsorships, vending opportunities. Grants for both general fund and Pride Festival have been utilized.
Primary Fundraising Event
Drag Queen Bingo is our primary fundraising event for our general fund. Sponsorship is our primary fundraising event for our PRIDE event.
