The Washington County Community Foundation remembers Genevieve Russell, a true champion of philanthropy whose positive spirit, generosity, and love for her community left an enduring legacy. Known by friends and colleagues for her kindness, enthusiasm, and dedication to helping others, Gen made a lasting impact through her commitment to charitable giving and service throughout Washington County.
Russell was recognized as the Foundation’s 2007 Philanthropist of the Year for her outstanding commitment to philanthropy and community service. She was an active member of the Foundation's Women of Philanthropy Committee, where she helped advance the mission of the Mother's Fund through fundraising and community engagement. She also played an important role in preserving the Foundation's home at the historic Brownlee House. The W. Scott & Genevieve Russell Philanthropy Room serves as a lasting tribute to her family's commitment to philanthropy.
Through her thoughtful generosity, Russell created a lasting legacy at the Foundation. In honor of her husband, W. Scott Russell, and her son, Ronald M. Russell, she established the W. Scott Russell Fund, which supports the music program at First Presbyterian Church in Washington, and the Ronald M. Russell Fund, a discretionary fund benefiting charitable organizations throughout Washington County. She also created the Russell Family Fund, supporting the Foundation's Mother's Fund.
