In Loving Memory of Gwendolyn Simmons

With a sad heart, I write to inform you of the passing of former WCCF Trustee, Gwendolyn Simmons.

Those of us who had the pleasure of knowing Gwen, know that our lives have been blessed - blessed by her beautiful smile, infectious laugh, love of community and the kindest of hearts.

She was an excellent Trustee and received our Richard L. White Excellence Award for Board Service. Of the various WCCF committees on which she served, she was most active on the Allocations & Programs Committee, always ensuring that we were considering the Mon Valley when making funding decisions. She was absolutely thrilled when we were able to award a $25,000 grant to initiate Ringgold High School's steel drum program.

It was clear that the people of the Mon Valley had tremendous respect for her. Anytime she and I were out together in the Mon Valley, individuals of all backgrounds would come up to her and wish her well, always addressing her respectfully as Mrs. Simmons. I often joked with her that she was the rock star of the Mon Valley!
