Eighty Four, PA – The Washington County Community Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant from its African American Community Fund to the LeMoyne Community Center to support STEAM activities for at-risk youth in Washington. About 60% of the youth the Center serves are minorities, with most identifying as Black or multiracial.

Through a partnership with Washington STEAMworks, the Center will expand its enrichment programming to include hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, using supplies such as robots, build sets, and Hummingbird kits.

“STEAM activities promote creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration, while also opening students’ eyes to future careers,” said Teresa Burroughs, executive director of the LeMoyne Community Center. “By introducing youth to these fields now, we’re planting seeds that may lead to successful jobs and careers.”
